Getting Started

On your first visit, we will talk about your goals and, if appropriate, your personal history in addition to completing some paperwork. If you wish to complete your paperwork ahead of time, you can download the documents by clicking the links below.

What Happens on Your First Visit
When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted by soft lighting and a small sitting area full of comfortable blue couches and chairs. A clipboard with some paperwork and a pen will be waiting for you on the couch. Should you complete the paperwork before your appointment time, you are welcome to relax, listen to some music, and read some of the available magazines, if you wish. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for your first appointment if you cannot complete your paperwork before arriving at the office.

When it is time for your session to begin, you will be welcomed in the sitting area and invited into the office. There, you will find a big comfortable red couch with blue pillows that will have a place to rest your head and lots of room to stretch out your legs. It is your option whether to lay down or sit on the couch - whichever is more comfortable for you.

During the session, we will review what brings you to counseling and your goals. If necessary and appropriate, you will be asked for some personal history just to get an idea of who you are and what you’ve been through. At any point, you are welcome to provide feedback on this process and share only as much as you feel comfortable to share. At the end of the first session, we will talk about how to proceed and whether counseling is a good fit for you.
